Gene Simmons solo albume is not underrated. Most of the people in the KISS army have his and ace's. But his is the most popular because he is the god almighty Gene Simmons. Hell his was the first solo album I bought.

I'll go ahead and admit Ace's blew Gene's album away, but I still like it. I have just heard alot of shittalk about the album. Music from the Elder was a sad case though. As well as Motley Crue's self titled album... I used to be one of those purist fans who would accept something different, but i actually listened to the album (as in, went out and bought the album) and now I love it. Maybe if they had changed the band name.... Generation Swine was underrated also, but it deserved it. And more.

The Soft Boys - "Underwater Moonlight" - this album came out back in 1980, and it still destroys most of the guitar-driven "alternative" albums of today. It's my pick for second best twin-guitar rock album of all time (no. 1 is Television's "Marquee Moon", which is a little better known, but not by much.)
Voivod - "Dimension Hatross" - With this album, Voivod really came into their own sound, even though they were labeled as a thrash band at the time. They had a strong cult following, and I even saw them headline a concert with supporting acts Faith No More and Soundgarden! But unlike those 2 bands, Voivod never went on to any mainstream success. And with the recent death of guitarist Piggy, it looks like they probably never will.
