My thoughts: This is the album that started it all. ANd it's pretty goddamn good! Not the best they have ever done, as there are several tracks that end up making the album miss the 10/10 point, but it is still great! It's a shame it went ignored on it's original release... but it is a surprise it didn't end up with a Platinum record with how big KISS became in 76.
Track List
1. Strutter
10/10
An excellent song, the first KISS song I ever heard! Very heavy, this is definitely one of their best songs! Paul sounds awesome on this song.
2. Nothing to Lose
10/10
I really liked this song. A lot of people don't but I did. Both Gene and Peter contribute vocals to this track.
3. Firehouse
0/10
Yes you read right. I gave one of KISS' biggest hits and most well known songs a 0/10. Why? Because it sucks! Very boring.
4. Cold Gin
10/10
This song makes up for the last track by giving us this song, which is a hell of a lot better! Gene sounds really good on this track, the song flows really nice, but the solo is really shitty.
5. Let Me Know
0/10
There's areason this song went unoticed. It's extremely shitty. And leave it at that. Well, wait, there was a live recording put out on
You Wanted the Best You Got the Best" which was some greatest live hits disc.
6. Kissin' Time
0/10
This song is the worst yet, however it does not bring the album down because on the original vinyl this song was not included. It's some cover of a 50's song that they added on because of their kissing contest they had or something.
7. Deuce
10/10
This song is by far the best on the album. Gene sounds great on vocals and the guitar riff is cool. One of the best alltime KISS songs.
8. Love Theme From KISS
8/10
This is an instrumental that eventually got boring. Not that bad but not great.
9.100,000 Years
10/10
This song is really cool as well, and it's notable for the longass drum solo on the version from Alive!. Worth a listen or two.
10. Black Diamond
10/10
This song is awesome! Just barely behind deuce, this is the heaviest on the album, and Peter sounds fuckin great here! Also, listen to Alive! version for an equally awesome recording. Love the solo.
Album Rating: 10/10
Final Words
Well, that's KISS. This was an extremely good debut album and I reccomend it to all who truly appreciate heavy metal. Buy it, you'll love it!
