The Prowler is a million times better. It's probably the best slasher of all time, or at least in the top three.

I watched this one on the 14th. It's one of my favorite Canadian horror movies next to Black Christmas.
I've been doing research on the uncut version for sometime now and everyone that says they've seen the uncut version on imdb are full of crap. The uncut version was NEVER released in the US. There are rumors that it was shown at UK cinemas when it was first released along side The Funhouse. Other than that there is NO uncut versions on VHS or DVD. The uncut version has NEVER been shown on TV and there are NO bootleg versions. The only uncut versions would be on 16 or 35mm reels somewhere in the UK and it would be very slim to find a decent copy & the uncut version being shown could just be a rumor. Also to prove that the uncut version never existed is that when the director sent the movie off to Paramount they cut the film and only a few were rumored to get sent to the UK uncut. But that might still be unlikely and a rumor. Also the director never made a print for himself before sending it off and the producer only now recently found the negatives to the deleted gory scenes and hopes to include them in the upcoming sequel. I also thought I'd mention that a German DVD company tried to release the uncut version using the newly discovered footage but Paramount wanted a ridiculous price for the rights. It looks like Paramount won't ever release the uncut version now that the scenes have been found and they are renewing the rights for another 10 years. So the only way we can see the footage is in the sequel unless someone can find a decent quality reel but that's extremely unlikely to happen.
I was also talking to some guy on imdb who laughs at these morons who say they've seen the uncut version. He's been looking for a copy for 15 years and has even talked with the producer and other people involved with the film. He said he'd pay a ridiculous amount for a bootleg copy if one is ever found. So I'm sure if one guy has been looking for a copy for 15 years and has even talked with people associated with the film that the uncut version doesn't exist except MAYBE in 16 or 35mm reels.

That's interesting 4ever because I could of sworn the VHS rental I saw in the late 80's or so was MUCH bloodier than the DVD version I bought a few years ago. When I was watching the DVD I even told myself this must be a censored version. If there really is no uncut version the only explanation I can come up with is that 20 years ago I wasn't as used to all the gory films I've seen since that time so nothing really shocks me anymore.

Well the VHS version is just a little bit gorier than the DVD version. The movie was cut again when it was released on DVD by Paramount but not by much. The opening sequence in the VHS is gorier then what is on the DVD. If you buy the Wal-Mart version it is the same cut as the VHS version. But the VHS or Wal-Mart DVD version is as gory as the movie gets.
But I know what you mean about remembering movies being more gory than what they really are. Movies made today have so much gore that when we go back and watch a movie we haven't seen in 10-20 years we always remember it being more gory since we are use to seeing as much gore as we see today in horror movies. A friend of mine was watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre with me for the first time in like 20 years and he thought the DVD was cut because he remembered it being really gory; though there really is no gore in the movie. Back in the 70's & 80's the gore that we had was shocking and now it's tame compared to todays standards so we remember it differently. I'm sure the gore of today will be tame in 20-30 years.

Yeah it's true about how gory films are today than compared to twenty years ago but one exception is Pieces. LOL it's pretty damn gory. But you know when they re-released The Last House On The Left a few years back, the VHS version was R rated and they censored the scene of the guy carving his name into the girl's chest. Then a couple years later the same company (Paramount?) released the DVD uncut.

Paramount has a stupid policy where they won't release any movies without a rating. Therefore we get no uncut movies from them. Which really sucks because My Bloody Valentine and Friday the 13th both need official uncut releases.

Yeah I remember people bitching that the box set of Friday wasn't uncut. Idiotic policy. What's the point?
