Above I put pictures of both DVD releases by Synapse. The one with the yellow background titled "Thriller: They Call Her One Eye" is cut by 3 min., and the only special feature it contains is a trailer of the film. The other one with a red background titled "Thriller: A Cruel Picture" is uncut, and contains quite a few more special features. I bought the cut one thinking it was uncut, because it says that it's uncut on the back of the case! I was pissed after learning I just spent $20.00 on a cut version of the film. I also, wondered why Synapse felt the need to release 2 versions of the film. I later learned that they did this, because people are very divided on the film. Well, these people are divided, because there are some hardcore sex scenes in the film. So, Synapse decided to release one version without those scenes, and the other with them. Although I now know why they did that, I'm still mad, because Im going to have to spend another $20.00 getting the uncut version with more special features. Atleast, they could have said it was cut on the case of the cut version. Now on to the film.
I picked this film up the other day knowing nothing about it, except for the synopsis on the back of the DVD case. Well, Im glad I bought this little Swedish exploitation flick. It is an awsome tail of a one-eyed girl with a sawed off shot-gun taking revenge. The fight scenes in this movie are awsome, and almost all of them are in slow-motion. Its not the kind of sequences you would see in "The Matrix" or somthing though. The film is just so gritty, which I think is what I love so much about '70 films. If your in to cult films (which most of you are), then I highly recommend that you get this film.
Synopsis: Growing up mute after a childhood sexual assault, a young girl spends years working on a remote farm. After missing the bus one day, she is picked up by a suave young man who takes her out to dinner, drugs her and forces her into a life of drug addiction and prostitution.
Torn away from home, she rebels against her captor only to have one of her eyes gouged out as punishment. After learning of the death of her parents and fed up with the cards life has dealt, she trains herself in the fine arts of fighting, killing and revenge. Transformed into a one-woman killing machine (and armed with a sawed-off shotgun), she uses her new skills to enact bloody revenge on those who have done her wrong.
[The Good] It has a nice gritty '70's action/exploitation feel to it, which I love. The fight sequences are awsome, and same for the shoot-outs. You also, really feel for the main character, and will find yourself rooting her on constantly.
[The Bad] You might feel that the slow-motion sequences are used a bit to long in some scenes. Over all though, the slow-motion sequences add alot to the film.
Like I said above, if your into cult films then this is a movie for you!
